Someone who takes the time to work out why it hurts.

Every appointment at Recovery Room is with Metin. You are not passed between therapists, and the hour is shaped around whatever your body is doing that week.

He started teaching in 2014 and has been treating people in Gravesend since 2019. Both come down to the same thing, which is working out what is really going on and then explaining it in a way that makes sense.

He kept finding himself treating people, wherever he went.

Long before Recovery Room had a name, Metin was the person people came to with a sore back or a stiff shoulder.

Whether it was colleagues in the jobs he worked through college and university, or someone at the pub, he would end up treating people wherever he was. His own running, boxing and CrossFit training meant he knew what they were feeling, and he never stopped, so turning it into a practice was the natural next step.

What has not changed is the curiosity. He will not simply work the sore spot and send you on your way. If the same shoulder keeps tightening up week after week, something is causing it, and finding that is the point of the hour.

Years of teaching show up in how he explains things.

You should leave understanding your own body a little better than when you arrived.

Before Recovery Room, Metin spent years as a Public Services tutor at the same college where he had studied BTEC Sport himself. Teaching taught him that people take information in differently and that one explanation will not land for everybody.

In the treatment room that means checking in as he goes, telling you what he is finding and why it matters, then sending you home with aftercare built around your actual week rather than a printed sheet of stretches.

Built slowly, in Gravesend.

Recovery Room did not begin with a clinic. It began with a fold-up couch and a lot of goodwill.

  1. Event tables and borrowed corners

The early days were a fold-up couch carried to sporting events and set up wherever there was room, including one memorable stint in a toilet. Metin still talks about that period warmly, because it is where he learned to treat people properly in conditions that were far from ideal.

  2. A room of his own

In 2021 he moved into a private treatment room inside a Gravesend barbershop and spent a little over a week turning it into somewhere calm to walk into. It was the first space that was properly his, and it changed how he worked.

  3. Recovery Room on Lord Street

Today the practice runs from a dedicated room on Lord Street, with evening and weekend appointments for people who work full time. The approach has not changed, but there is more room and more time for each person.

  • Been seeing Metin now for a few years with various issues. Sciatica and groin issues mainly. Regardless to the issue, Metin always knows exactly what to do and finds what’s causing the issue (usually an area away from where I thought) and goes to work on it. Such a relief when I leave and have more flexibility. I’m always given recommendations on exercises that will help my issues which Iv taken on board and slowly getting to a point I can see light at the end of the tunnel If you can handle the pain I recommend the muscle scraping, it really helped me at one stage but wouldn’t do it too often

It's been great to see you over the years, Ben; and thanks for having me back. I'm pleased that the treatments and exercises have helped with your mobility and being able to move pain free. Muscle scraping.... where do I start. This isn't for everyone but is so effective and helps to speed things up allowing you to move better. So well done for getting through it, you're reaping the rewards of it now.

  • Metin has been looking after my body for several years now and it’s always great to see him. He helps my aches and pains go away in just a session or two and educates me with stretches and exercise to prevent me coming back too soon! Today was a little different where Metin was able to sort my back out half way through the session so he introduced me to some Reiki healing, which I’ve never experienced before. It was powerful and would love to try it again soon. Thank you Metin!

  • I cannot praise Metin enough, he is amazing, makes you feel at ease, I have seen Metin 3 times over the last 4 years and each time my problem has been sorted, At the beginning of my massage I could barely move my leg and hip, but by the end of it I was moving more freely and no pain ..he doesnt say you need to go back to him unless you feel you want too ...he is honest ...dont think twice book him..you will not be disappointed ..thank you Metin
